An old work

For 12 months I have been working on creating texture through the use of layers of paint, collage and mixed media - this piece was work I did for the coastal exhibition - I really like it! I have another one waiting to be completed with much richer colours.

New Directions

This series of paintings have been inspired by a friend's photo of a friend who is a journalist in Afghanistan. The two portraits - the first one is of a ethiopian woman (from Time Magazine - with very searching eyes). The second one is an image that developed as I painted it - using the textures and so on as they appeared. With each painting I have felt very medieval and then classical as you can see I am using columns and statues in the background. I have a few more canvases to go.

Watercolour Sketches

Inspiration from Western Australia

I have just returned from a camping trip to Exemouth, Coral Bay, Ningaloo Reef in Western Australia. The images speak for themselves. I really enjoyed the wide open spaces, the colour and scenery. It was amazing. Here I concentracted on the changing colours and shells and coral.

The Exhibition

The exhibition opened last Saturday and was a great success. All the artists are extremely happy about the response by exhibition goers. We had a great night. Another chance to see the exhibition is this Saturday at 1.30 when there will be a conversation with the artists moderated by Benita Collins (you may remember her from playschool days). Wine and nibbles will be served. You can of course go during the day until the 23 February.

The Latest Influence

In the third week of January I did a workshop on painting towards abstraction - here is a painting I have been working on today. It is called "Coral". What do you think?

Notes from my visual diary

I have spent the months over summer preparing for the exhibtion which is coming up pretty soon. Ive been inspired by beach scenes - wild and sunny atmospheres. Here is a look at how its developed.
