Sturt Workshop - Painting with Pastels

Here are some works from a workshop at the Summer school - learning how to use pastels and also how to interpret the landscape- which was very challenging.

An old work

For 12 months I have been working on creating texture through the use of layers of paint, collage and mixed media - this piece was work I did for the coastal exhibition - I really like it! I have another one waiting to be completed with much richer colours.

New Directions

This series of paintings have been inspired by a friend's photo of a friend who is a journalist in Afghanistan. The two portraits - the first one is of a ethiopian woman (from Time Magazine - with very searching eyes). The second one is an image that developed as I painted it - using the textures and so on as they appeared. With each painting I have felt very medieval and then classical as you can see I am using columns and statues in the background. I have a few more canvases to go.

Watercolour Sketches

Inspiration from Western Australia

I have just returned from a camping trip to Exemouth, Coral Bay, Ningaloo Reef in Western Australia. The images speak for themselves. I really enjoyed the wide open spaces, the colour and scenery. It was amazing. Here I concentracted on the changing colours and shells and coral.
